CASE STUDY / MULTIWIRE FOR QUARTZITE

QUARTZITE MULTIWIREBRAZIL

A case from Cachoeiro showing why the purchase price of a diamond wire is only one part of the real processing cost.

THE RESULT IN ONE LINE

THE CHEAPEST WIREWASN’T THE CHEAPEST SOLUTION.

A better sawn finish eliminated two polishing heads, increased polishing line speed and reduced the total processing cost.

THE CHALLENGE

The cut was cheap. The finishing was not.

A customer in Cachoeiro was cutting quartzite with a low-cost multiwire. The wire left pronounced cutting marks on the slabs, forcing the polishing line to start with a very coarse grit simply to remove the marks.

THE DIAMOND SERVICE SOLUTION

We looked beyond the cutting machine.

The customer switched to a Diamond Service Multiwire for Quartzite, developed not only around cutting performance and wire life, but also around the quality of the sawn surface and its effect on the following polishing process.

THE RESULT

Two heads eliminated. Faster polishing.

The improved sawn finish allowed the customer to eliminate two polishing heads and increase the polishing line speed. The savings generated during finishing were greater than the additional cost of the Diamond Service wire.

WHAT CHANGED

DON’T MEASURE THE WIRE.MEASURE THE FINISHED SLAB.

A lower wire price does not necessarily mean a lower production cost. The real comparison starts with the cut and ends only when the slab is finished.

Polishing heads2 heads eliminated from the finishing process.
Polishing lineHigher operating speed thanks to the improved sawn finish.
Surface qualityLess aggressive starting grit required to remove wire marks.
Total processing costSavings in polishing greater than the additional cost of the Diamond Service wire.
